Sometimes – especially if no one else “sees” the clutter – you get tired of asking, yelling, and reminding, and just do it yourself.
Here is another idea.
On an as-needed basis (listen to your heart and stress level), set up a “Buy-It-Back Store” and collect all the items that are cluttering the floor, tables, furniture, counters, etc. You know, the ones that drive you crazy.
It’s best to focus on the common areas first, instead of including bedrooms, to ease others into this new strategy. For your family, maybe the bedrooms will need to come later.
Your family must “pay” to retrieve their items. Payment might be chores, cash, or good deeds. Customize it to their age and be creative.
Of course, it is also best to give your family a day or two of notice before the “Buy-It-Back Store” opens, which gives you time to find homes for your own items!
