Tuesday Tidbit – Be a Paper Decision-Maker

Starting today, be a decision-maker for all the papers that come into your life. For each paper you encounter (mail, kids’ school papers, bills, receipts, or junk mail), do one of five things:

  1. Discard/recycle it.
  2. Delegate to someone else to handle.
  3. Act on it now if it can be done in less than 2 minutes.
  4. Defer action (put in “bills to be paid” or “make a call” folder).
  5. File it for future reference… but remember we only look at 20% of what we file.

Resist peeking at a paper and simply returning it to the stack of papers on your desk or kitchen counter. Start today and really handle the paper that will always flow into your home. If you take care of it today, you won’t add to the stack from yesterday and the days before. Then you can work on the postponed decisions pile… the one that makes you crazy.
